What is PCOD PACKAGE?
All women have two ovaries that release an egg alternately every month. The ovaries produce androgens or male hormones in minute quantities. PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) is a condition where the ovaries release a lot of immature or partially-mature eggs which eventually turn into cysts. Some of the common symptoms are abdominal weight gain, irregular periods, male pattern hair loss, and infertility. In this condition, the ovaries usually become enlarged and secrete large amounts of androgens that can cause havoc with a woman’s fertility and her body. The best treatment for PCOD often looks at reducing the severity of such symptoms.

PCOD (Polycystic ovary disease or syndrome) is a condition that leads to the formation of multiple cysts in the ovaries of women. It can also trigger diabetes, infertility, acne, and excessive hair growth. This test panel includes seven tests required to diagnose PCOD and monitor the course of treatment. You are advised not to eat or drink anything other than water for 8 to 12 hours before going for this test. Your doctor may ask for a PCOD test if he observes signs and symptoms such as:
  • Multiple cysts in the ovaries on ultrasonography
  • Pelvic pain
  • Irregular menstrual periods
  • Abrupt weight gain
  • Abnormal body hair growth
Acne or darkening of the skin Tests included are: (6 tests)
  1. TESTOSTERONE - TOTAL: This test measures the testosterone level in the blood. Testosterone is a sex hormone. The level of this hormone is higher among women with PCOS
  2. LUTEINIZING HORMONE (LH): This test measures the Lutenising hormone (LH) level in the blood. Elevated LH (Lutenising Hormone) to FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) ratio is indicative of PCOD
  3. FOLLICLE-STIMULATING HORMONE (FSH): This test measures the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) level in the blood. Elevated LH (Lutenising Hormone) to FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) ratio is indicative of PCOD
  4. PROLACTIN: This test is to rule out elevated prolactin
  5. RANDOM GLUCOSE: A random glucose test, also known as a random blood glucose test or a casual blood glucose test is a glucose test on the blood of a non-fasting person. This test assumes a recent meal and therefore has higher reference values than the fasting blood glucose test.
  6. RANDOM INSULIN: A random insulin test is one method for measuring the amount of glucose or sugar circulating in a person's blood. Doctors perform this test and use the result to determine whether a person is likely to have diabetes.
