Preparation

It is useful in examining the treatment effects as well. The test mainly finds aerobic microorganisms i.e. those microorganisms which require oxygen to function. The test results are studied along with other clinical reports.

Procedure

The test is performed by inserting the catheter tube into the infected area. The doctor will make a small incision at the skin area wherein the tube has to be inserted. The special tip catheter tube is slowly put into that incision and directed towards the infected zone. The doctor will move the tube around in order to collect a sufficient sample of microorganisms. Once the sample is collected, the tube is removed. A 5 cm part of it is cut and sent to the lab for testing.
