Details of DPT (Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) Antibodies, Serum
DPT antibodies blood test measures the levels of antibodies against Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus in the serum. These are three different bacteria that can cause severe infections. The DPT vaccine is administered in early childhood to protect against these diseases, and the DPT antibodies test is used to check if the body has developed immunity against them.
Diphtheria:Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection that affects the mucous membranes of the throat and nose. It is caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae bacteria and is known for producing a thick grey covering in the throat that can cause breathing problems, heart failure, paralysis, and even death.
Pertussis:Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection. It is caused by Bordetella pertussis bacteria. Pertussis is characterized by severe coughing spells that can make it difficult for a child to eat, drink, or even breathe.
Tetanus:Tetanus, often called lockjaw, is a bacterial infection characterized by muscle stiffness and spasms. Clostridium tetani bacterium causes tetanus. The bacteria often enter the body through a wound or cut and release a toxin that affects the brain and nervous system.
DPT Antibodies Test: The DPT antibodies test is used to determine whether an individual has immunity to Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus. It measures the levels of antibodies in the blood that are produced in response to the DPT vaccine or to a natural infection in the past.
