Details of Nasal swab for Culture Sensitivity - Aerobic
Culture and Sensitivity - Aerobic [Nasal Swab] is a diagnostic test used to detect and identify bacteria that may be present in the nasal passages and to determine their sensitivity to various antibiotics. This test is especially useful in cases of suspected bacterial infections in the upper respiratory tract, including bacterial sinusitis or nasal carriage of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, which can be a source of infection. The Culture and Sensitivity test involves taking a swab from the inside of the nasal passages, which is then cultured in a laboratory to allow any bacteria present to grow. Once bacterial growth is achieved, the bacteria are then tested against a range of antibiotics to establish which are most effective in treating the infection.
Sample Type:Nasal swab
Preparations Required:No special preparation is needed. Avoid using nasal sprays or antihistamines prior to the test unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
