Prothrombin (Factor II) Gene Mutation - G20210A

Prothrombin gene mutation is an inherited condition that increases your risk of developing abnormal blood clots in your veins and lungs (deep vein thrombosis or DVT) (pulmonary embolism or PE). This occurs because your body produces more Factor II (prothrombin) protein than is required for normal clot formation. Blood clots can cause serious problems in your body by obstructing blood flow and preventing oxygen from reaching your cells.

Why it is done?
