Details of Rubella IgG Avidity
Rubella IgG Avidity Test is a diagnostic tool used to determine the timeline of a Rubella infection. It differentiates between a recent (acute) and past infection by measuring the strength (avidity) of IgG antibodies that your immune system produces in response to Rubella, also known as German Measles.
Although Rubella usually causes mild symptoms, it can lead to Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) if contracted during pregnancy, which can result in severe birth defects. It is crucial to determine the stage of infection, particularly during pregnancy. Interpretation of rubella IgG avidity test provides essential information for risk management. A high rubella IgG avidity indicates previous infection or vaccination, which suggests a lower risk during pregnancy. The normal ranges may differ depending on the laboratory, but generally, a low result indicates recent infection, while a high result indicates past exposure or vaccination.
