What is DOPPLER LOWER LIMB VEINS BOTH ?

An Arterial Doppler test checks the circulation in either your arms or legs. This test relies on the use of blood pressure cuffs (similar to the one used to take your arm blood pressure). It measures and records blood flow patterns and pressures to either the upper or lower extremities. The technologists will also listen to your arteries.

A Doppler ultrasound is a radiological investigation that uses reflected sound waves to see how blood flows through a blood vessel. It helps clinicians evaluate blood flow through major arteries and veins, such as those of the arms, legs, and neck. During pregnancy, a Doppler ultrasound can be used to evaluate blood flow in an unborn baby to check the health of the fetus. It is a noninvasive technique in which there is no risk of radiation exposure. It is totally safe during pregnancy.

Preparation and Procedure

Avoid nicotine products like cigarettes and tobacco for about 2-4 hours prior to the Doppler test procedure. Nicotine causes the blood vessels to constrict and this may be mistaken for a pathological constriction. The patient is asked to remove any jewelry or metal accessories as they may interfere with the examination results. For abdominal scan, the patient would be asked to eat a low-fiber diet for a day before the test, to minimize gas in the gut.

  • Several blood pressure cuffs may be wrapped around your extremities depending on which test is ordered by your doctor.


• Lower Extremity Arterial Doppler - you may be asked to walk on a treadmill.
  
  
  • Several blood pressure cuffs may be wrapped around your extremities depending on which test is ordered by your doctor.
  • For those unable to walk, a procedure called Reactive Hyperemia will be done. This involves the tightening of a blood pressure cuff for 5 minutes, which will be fully explained by the technologist.
